Reaching Beyond Mortality

This dead tree near Burmis in the Crowsnest Pass region of Southern Alberta looks like it is reaching out toward the heavens. Even the dead grass in the foreground looks like it is reaching the same direction. Actually that was because there was a strong, frigid wind blowing as I took this shot but hey, I'm not complaining. Although this ancient limberpine died in 1978, and was blown over by high winds twenty years later, it was quickly re-erected by local residents, much to the delight of the hundreds of amateur and professional photographers alike who pass this way each year. It its own way, the tree has already grasped a small bit of immortality.
