Cemetery Hill, #3
Estuary, Saskatchewan

This is the only tree in the entire cemetery. It seemed peculiar because really, I think it was the only tree for miles. I shot next to it for over an hour photographing a nearby grave before I noticed the small fence within the overgrowth of branches.

It was at that moment, standing silently in the moonlight as the cool night breeze blew across the desolate prairie, that I suddenly grasped the loneliness and sorrow of this place. Actually a grave site itself, I wonder who lies here beneath this solitary tree? And who, long ago, said their final good-byes and closed the gate.
...Never to return.
